Offset with a tree

InHouse has joined forces with the Green Business Network to support two environmental and social rehabilitation projects in West Yorkshire.

The Able2 project will establish a fish farm and outdoor learning training centre based on the successful ABLE project it has set up in Wakefield. It will provide social education and training for Kirklees young people including those identified as being in danger of exclusion from school; those already excluded and groups from the probation service.

The site is looking to plant in excess of 80,000 trees, and will be planting 15 acres of willow over the next ten years and InHouse is pleased to be able to contribute towards this target. By establishing a partnership with the Green Business Network, InHouse is also able to offset any marketing activity that clients may wish to contribute to.

The project also incorporates growing salad and vegetables to learn about healthy eating, growing twenty acres of coppiced willow for on site renewable energy heating for the fish tanks, the development of a tree nursery, the planting and management of a fourteen acre woodland, and the creation of a two km long hedgerow bordering the site.

Offsetting in this way is not just about planting a tree, it is about increasing biodiversity, whilst growing a bio-fuel that produces food that provides an education and training resource for disadvantaged young people.
